Poetic Comics : Poetry meets Art (Comics Project & Tutorial)

Namastey! Everyone!
After a great response the 2 Community Comics Projects received on Raj Comics Forums. I wanted to experiment...to mix poetry and penciling. :D I have never read a comic based on a poem. Like scenes are divided on the basis of description in the stanzas (paragraphs).
Karna Kya hai.....

*) - Poets post your best poem in this thread. Write a script dividing 1 or more stanzas for 1 scene. Simple script provides a lot of flexibility to an artist, confusions, problems can be solved in this thread or chat, FB, etc.
*) - 1 scene per page to clearly convey the message and better artwork.

*) - Minimum Page limit 3 & Maximum Page limit 10.
*) - Artists according to their preferences can choose poem(s) and work on them. As there are multiple contributions therefore....no time limit...but I hope to read above 5 Poetic Comics after 1 Month.
*) - Avoid hypothetical, philosophical poems unless it is compared with 'materialistic world' or indirectly some tangible things, concepts are shown...as artists have to draw something. :P Plus young artists may find such poems difficult to convert into comics & intact the message poet is conveying.

*) - Print on Demand Publications like Pothi, etc ask for at least 10 Pages to publish a book. If pages are Black & White then cost of finished product is also less than a colored version.
A week ago I was talking to artist & comic fan Ashish Khare about this concept and sent him a poem, ....84 की टीस (Pogrom 84). He liked the idea and is now working on a 9 Page Poetic Comic.
1 More thing, This is an experiment and a tutorial where poets and artists will post tips, info, suggestions for everyone who wants enter in these creative fields.

Tutorial # 1 :

Posting the rough script I sent to Ashish.

References : Lakshya Purush (Doga Series), Revolver (Parmanu Series).

New set is out & I read Lakshya Purush, nice comic. :) Focus is completely on Kaali Mirch Chacha, who is mostly out of the mainstream Doga action and only his name is mentioned every now & then.

His personal life, past, Blak Pepper art, etc are covered in an interesting manner. His wife, children, father-in-law & few other side-side-characters related to Kaali Chacha's past feature in this comic.

Comeback Issues after a long Time Gap

Posted by TRENDSTER in www.mohitness.blogspot.com , Raj Comics Forums , Raj Comics , Mohit Sharma/Trendster , Indian Comics , Comics , Analysis

TRENDSTER

We often demand for a comeback of many forgotten side characters (or villains) in a storyline. Our demand is on the basis of past comics..... un purani comics mey wo seh kirdaar adbhut roles nibhate aa rahe thay par phir unko series mey na kay barabar liya gaya ya bhula diya gaya.

To fans kay dilo mey ye baat rehti hai ki agar wo character itney samay aur issues tak missing na hota to kitne memorable scenes padhne ko milte aur ek Comic series ko kitni madad milti. To ye ek possibility banti hai ki agar wo kirdaar hota to series better hoti par is sambhavna ko bhi nakara nahi jaa sakta ki agar us kirdaar ka overuse hota aur story plots mey uske liye abardasti jagah banayi jaati phir kya hota....tab to kahaniyon ka level sirf us kirdaar ki wajah se girta. To ye anumaan chalte rehte hai ki kya hota aur kya nahi.

Kuch jagah to genuine jagah banti hai us character ki par wo gayab rehta hai. Genuine se mera matlab uski powers, past, etc se related ya usko compliment karti koi ghatna ho par phir bhi us character ki jagah writer koi aur vikalp isteymaal mey laaye.

After the release of first issue back in August, myself and JKB decided that should we continue this task of writing and editing and compiling and everything for this magazine.

And, doubtlessly, the answer as predicted was,"Yes, Why not?". It is just these three little words, that made me look into Adobe's InDesign and several other geeky stuffs. Though I really miss the days when I was a free person, had no tensions or responsibilities; but this life suits me well.

Now, coming to the title of this blog. As you might know(already or later after reading the blog) that we have a blog page for Comics Stolon(http://comics-stolon.blogspot.com/).

I had been (literally) spending the last month virtually over there. The recent additions to the blog are:

  • Google Custom Search
  • Advanced Newsletter
  • Feed Subscriptions
  • Blog Highlights
  • Animated Headlines
  • Google AdSense(for monetary support)
  • A toolbar at the top to comment and interact(Google Profile required)

Have a look at the blogs, posts and if you have't checked out the Comics Stolon Issue #001; check it as fast as you can here: http://comics-stolon.blogspot.com/2010/07/comics-stolon-is-magazine-created-by.html

Those of us, who have strong urge to do stuff on Facebook check out: Facebook Comics Stolon Group
